For those not in the know (where have you been?!) That Girl Lay Lay is a big deal. At least in the world of my kids. And now D&D of course!
Lay Lay is positive vibes embodied. She is literally a positive affirmation app come to life. Here to make us feel empowered, to make us feel good about ourselves. And who doesn’t need some of that in their life, eh?
That is exactly what I wanted for my likkle Dragons when I started D&D. I wanted them to feel like there were no limits to what they could achieve. What I love about Lay Lay is she’s an AI - she’s got no concept of boundaries, limits. That is exactly what I want my kids to feel.
And that’s why I’m so proud to be working with That Girl Lay Lay - and to announce our new limited edition Lay Lay line of leisure wear and accessories. Out 30th October.
Real life Alaya High is a Boss. She’s colourful, she’s creative, music is her life. Lay Lay started rapping in the passenger seat of her Dad’s car and signed to Empire Records when she was 11, then Nickelodeon came knocking. Kids can achieve anything they set their mind to.
If it ain’t already clear enough why we’re partnering with this Lil Big Dripper (just watch the show, fam) for me, it’s about seeing me and my family represented. That and her steeze, yeah?
When I was growing up, brown girls like me weren’t on TV. Apart from my Queens, Sade and Neneh, we weren’t visible. They were the exception, not the rule. Now my kiddoes watch Lay Lay all the time. The boys look up to her just as much as my daughter. They see someone that looks like them and they see how far she’s gone. Anything is possible for my Dragons too.
Now, to blow my own trumpet for a moment. D&D has secured a partnership with Nickelodeon and Paramount as a UK fashion licensee for That Girl Lay Lay til Spring 2024!! Little old me, independent business owner, started as a side hustle at the kitchen table, now working with global brands. Someone pinch me already. Anything is possible fam!
We’re launching a preview of the collection at Cocoa Kids Career Fest on Sunday 30th October, with a live fashion show and a few lil surprises thrown in just for fun. So, keep your eyes peeled. It’s a seriously limited edition, needless to say exclusive line. Only the best for our D&D crew.
