5 Things I Never Knew Before Lockdown

This slower pace in life has really got me  realising how much I didn't even take into consideration but now has me thinking 'How did I ever manage'? 🤔

1. HOW ILL EQUIPPED MY KITCHEN IS

Prior to lockdown (LD) I thought I had all I needed; frying pans, cutlery, baking trays, plates - you know all the 'apparent' regular stuff required to put a nice meal on the table. But as it turns out this is not the case. Since LD I don't know how I've managed to survive without a deep fat fryer, an omelette maker, a fondue set (I don't even do cheese like that fam), a pizza oven, a bread maker or a banana slicer 🤣 All of a sudden it's not good enough that I can do all of these things without the equipment and have been doing so for decades..I now need the gadgets..WTF!! and just to top it off, with all the regular eating (along with the not so regular eating) it would appear that we also don't have enough plates. The dishwasher is in constant overtime just making sure we have plates for dinner time 😫 I guess that's the weigh up for having such a great looking wash basket! 😆

2. HOW MANY CLOTHES WE DON'T NEED TO WEAR

I know flit between PJ's and joggers 🙈 (this is how I define my awake and sleep modes - with a clear line obvs😜). The max stainage on joggers and tees is between 4-7,  anything beyond that is straight up gross 🤢 so into the wash basket it goes. Like seriously, my wash basket has never looked so good aka empty 🤩 Do we really need to change clothes every day? This helps my to-do list shrink whilst saving the planet 💪🏽🌍 Can we keep this protocol once LD is over, pwetty pwease 😉 #DontJudgeMe

3. WHY HAVE I NOT APPLIED FOR MASTERCHEF ALREADY 💭

I'm making rostis for brunch with dippy eggs, banana loaf for elevenses darling and recreating every one of my children's favourite restaurants meals, you know how we do!!! 😴 I'm a proper foodie now, cooking EVERY mother trucking thang from scratch 😑, like I've got nothing better to do 😂 Does that instantly get me to the front of the Masterchef queue.....?

4. HOW MUCH BOG ROLL WE DON'T NEED

Was it just me but when all this LD hoo-hah started I was running down the virtual alcohol, chocolate and dessert aisles. The only thing I couldn't fathom is being stuck at home without any of my intermittent joy bringers (my kids have been known to fill this role from time to time🤭) to help me through the mountain of school work for my two KS2'ers....FML... TF for 🥃🍰🍫

5. HOW MUCH MY KIDS ARE ACTUALLY CAPABLE OF

Last but by no means least, one of the greatest things to come out of LD is quality time with the family. I mean let's face it, sibling rivalry is never at bay and the squabbling can have you dreaming about taking up residency on that desert island as soon as flights are back on! ✈️

We are in each other's faces 24/7 more or less these days but the best thing to come out of this situation is their boredom has turned  into wanting to do more for themselves on a practical level. My two eldest kiddos aged 8 and 9 now know how to use the hob and oven and what the different settings do, cook pasta, do eggy bread, unload the dishwasher, load and set the washing machine and they request to chop / grate the vegetables for meal times and season meat. It feels like a lot of milestones are being naturally met giving them autonomy of themselves which will always be as asset to themselves and a benefit to me and their dad.
